When I first approached a few local bloggers about an event concept I had, I didn’t anticipate the beauty that would come from it. Local creatives meeting each other for the first time face-to-face instead of just over Instagram, being able to feature apparel & accessories from around Grand Rapids, and even being the soft opening at an incredible new sandwich shop @grainsandwichshop to help promote their opening. It’s awesome to see how many people are impacted for good when you go after an idea, invest your whole heart & let the Lord lead.
Working with so many local shops & creatives was such an enlivening experience! Plus, connecting with my local community & building a network for each person to connect & grow was the coolest thing to watch! I walked away from the @meetcutecommunity event proud of what had been accomplished & proud of the fact that we created a space for local growth!
This (majorly) awesome faux fur jacket is from local shop @blcklamb & the beauty I styled it on is @rachelgabes – she’s an incredible photographer, guys! But aside from that she’s kind, sincere, relatable and hearing her story was so inspiring! Thanks for coming and letting me style you in this sassy number, Rachel! ❤️

I could hear music on the other side of this pale yellow door and although that may not sound scary to you, I was terribly nervous they would see me on their doorstep and come guns blazing out to get me! But let’s be real, with a soft yellow door and such cheerful potted flowers they probably would have offered me cookies.
Cheers to you sweet yellow door and mystery friends inside for creating such a welcoming and happy little space that made me feel both thrill and appreciation!
I hope and wonder if the owners of this lovely space feel the same emotions I did about what they created. I sure hope so! I’m (obviously) one of those people that thinks pretty deeply, I tend to hope that any ordinary day holds the possibility of growth or greatness & sometimes even hunt for it. Typically it’s the unexpected, subtle things that captivate me the most; like this small side entrance hiding alongside of the huge, stunning home it belongs to.
Maybe it’s the part of me that is rooting for the underdog, or maybe the part that is captivated by the little details, or maybe the space of my heart that believes in the power of small victories in achieving the big vision. Whichever it is, this little door seemed to catch my attention and allow my heart to wander with curiosity.
Not all of my photos have a story or enlightening moment behind them, but I’m proud of them all. Each one is a little step forward and each one gives me the opportunity to share a small piece of my heart with you! ? @kelseyhettinga .

I realize not every girl wants to wear boots that fall under the ‘masculine’ category, but I sure do! (I think it’s the bad a** in me ?)That’s what’s so fun about understanding your personal style! If you love something a little obscure there is always a way to incorporate into your wardrobe! So, how the heck do you discover what your personal style even is?! How do you know which colors best compliment your skin tone, hair & eyes?! What about which silhouettes flatter your shape? Ooooh that one’s my favorite!
These are only a few of the questions we will answer during a styling session! It’s not my job to make your style resemble mine (unless you want it to of course!), it’s my job to help you understand your style, to help you feel confident, alive & secure in the clothes you wear and to put every detail together in a way that’s unique to you!
So many of my clients have become my friends and I’m so grateful for that element of my work! I am proud that my work has produced authentic trust & relationships.
Doing what you love means investing all of your heart and that’s a vulnerable place to be. I’ve experienced some unfair circumstances but chose to let those experiences evolve into lessons that caused me to learn and grow not discourage me from moving forward, even though I was tempted.
I read this on a recent post from @sarahbessey and I couldn’t believe how spot on it was! “The holy invitations to be brave with our life never end, do they? Everything we yearn for requires faith & patience, guts & grace.” Pretty sure that’s my motto for the next year. I needed that reminder that my business was a holy invitation to be brave, to trust God and keep going because he’s got me! He called me.

This has been a funky week. I’ve had a sore throat for the last 5 days, I still feel like I’m settling back in to our normal after being on vacation & I’ve just felt a little off. I’m certain you guys can relate with weeks like this, too.
It’s one of those weeks I feel like I just need a really good (ugly) cry, all of the cozy things in the world and a day to process some deep feelings that I’m having about stuff going on in my world. I appreciate that God allows us to feel things, process them, go through the motions and then He helps us pick up the pieces and begin to rebuild. Wether it’s just an emotional week or it’s a major life battle; they’re the same to Him. He cares about the smaller, hard moments & days just as much as He cares about the hard years & lifelong battles that some people face.

Have you guys seen the selection of tees at @anthropologie right now?! Every french saying you can imagine and they’re all as soft as buttuh on the bod! This one is my favorite, it quickly became a staple in my wardrobe! My favorite thing about graphic+saying tees is all the ways to style them! This oldie-but-goodie leather jacket & necktie are an easy option to elevate the tee. (Especially if you’re a sleepy mom like me and have to fool all the people that you’ve got yourself put together!) —
If you love the graphic tee look but you aren’t sure how to style it, I want to help! California bound in 2 days!! We are so ready for a taste of our west Coast home. Time is such a crazy thing, of course watching my kids grow with each passing moment is majorly bittersweet but it’s one of those things you really forget to seize until you’re reminded how much value it actually holds. Im pretty sure Weston has grown an inch since last week and it seems the baby in him just keeps fading everyday. (Insert Mom sobs here) I am SO ready to spend time with family & friends in Ca but a week to catch up after a year of time has passed never really fills that space of longing to be a part of their lives. Soaking in each moment of whatever season you’re in is so crucial! Being aware of the time and making strategic decisions means you never have to wish you did it differently, you’ll look back on moments in your life and your heart will feel full. Plus, the more that passes the older I get and… yeah, no thanks. Ps. Fall florals are killin’ me this year! So. Good.

You should know that when I’m shooting, I always have music playing (usually in back pocket) and there is always impromptu dancing and singing that happens! It’s the only reason I’m not terribly uncomfortable during these photoshoots. Dancing is like therapy for me, I get crazy ya’ll. Like, I don’t hold back for nobody!! This is just a moment of the passion captured by the lovely @happyphotoco who encouraged me to move to the beat of my own drum during our shoot! ?ps. (Read through for an exciting opportunity!!) Here I am doing what I love with the worlds sweetest assistant! She is also one of the best friends I have ever known! Along with the beauty that took this photo, @thecozinessconsultant who also happens to be my sister. I’m feeling extra grateful for the team of people that don’t only love me, they support me through moments of weakness and of celebration! They’ve breathed encouragement and affirmation every step of the way but also offered honest, kind and fresh perspective when I’ve felt stuck. •
I don’t believe a business is (as) successful when you don’t have people behind you that believe in your vision and want to share in it with you!
So I want to welcome you, business owners and creatives, to share in a celebration of support and give honor where it’s due! Would any of you be interested in a small get together where you can bring one of your support people, (maybe the ones who don’t get recognized enough) and treat them to dinner and a mingling evening?! It would be a limited event with enough spots for 10 of you to bring along one additional person where you can treat them to dinner and drinks and honor their support??
