Thinking about the sunshine & missing it’s cozy, warm touch. Probably because I’m sitting in my car while my babe naps in his car seat and I’m surrounded by white sky poop aka snow – you can thank my kids for that sweet little description.
It’s always kind of nice when I’m forced into this position of patience and quiet while my sweet one is resting. I mean give me alone time & some soft music and it’s a recipe for self reflection, the older I get the more I realize how quick I am to go deep – I wonder why that is?! I guess I’m more willing to become aware of my shortcomings and let the Lord help me become someone better, self reflection isn’t always fun – the list of things to work on is endless, but it’s in this safe space where I can also give the Lord a chance to remind me of the areas I should be proud. Today I was reminded that growth is a lifelong process, it’s not making a decision today to be someone who’s got it all together and by tomorrow having it all figured out. It’s ok to let the process happen, to grow little by little and even let myself fail along the way – without letting it defeat me. One foot in front of the other, get back up, try again, change the strategy, let patience have its perfect work. I’m a work in progress & I am a-ok with that! ? @kelseyhettinga .

So, I went to Ulta today to buy some Christmas gifts. I had my littlest fella Weston with me, he’s 3 & obviously curious about everything he sets his big, round, puppy dog eyes on. Especially messy things, of course – in fact the messier, the better! By the time we left he had red lipstick smeared all over his face (I turned around for a second, I swear!), he had disassembled a lit display case – like actually removed the lightbulb from where it was attached (crazy thing is I was standing right next to him! I didn’t even look away this time!), he now smells like a male Gucci model but also a coconut and I managed to leave with 2 of the wrong things because I was more focused him than what I was buying. The amount of snow that has fallen in the last 12 hours in GR is ummm, no bueno. Beautiful? Absolutely! Cozy? I mean it’s like magic when you’re inside looking out! But I think half of this would have been just as lovely, sky… Thanks a lot. I think it’s officially time to say it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas with all of this sparkling, white ‘tow’ – as my 3 year old would say. You know when you’re in a season of growth and moments of feeling overwhelmed sneak up & you’re not sure you have the capacity to grow anymore? I found myself in one of those moments recently, an extended one, actually… I hate when they do that! When they seem to linger for longer than they’re welcome. But it’s also in those moments, those seasons, that the need for inward growth becomes greater.
This season has been challenging! It’s amazing what the Lord will speak when you really pour your heart out to Him & let Him get closer. I found myself in the middle of worship at @newchapel pouring my heart out with expectation; James 4:8 says that if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us. He spoke one simple thing to my heart that morning and it was then that I understood this season I’m in – it’s an opportunity. A chance to let the Lord work in me to increase my capacity, refresh my spirit and give new vision for my family & business! If a business needs to grow strategically you better believe the people behind them do too! I’m amazed again & again at the goodness of God and how intentionally He works in our lives. So I’m soaking up this season of nearness to Him and excited for the things to come! ? @kelseyhettinga .

We had our first Christmas party this week and it was so much fun! (Yes, it was before December 1st & I totally appreciated it!) This no jacket November weather in Michigan is awwwweeeesome! Heeyyyyo! The California in me is thankful for every warmer day we get! What about you?! Do you prefer warm weather or cold? I would take the snow however, I just don’t want the cold! •
If you’ve never purchased a scarf from @hm you should seriously consider it! They’re around $20/$25 and all of my favorite ones come from there, including this gray one. Soft, warm & always have great colors! Shopping for quality things doesn’t always mean spending more money, (I mean let’s be real, most times it does… but not always!) there are always treasures hiding in the ‘right price’ stores so keep an eye out for them! You might be surprised what some brands offer for the prices! Side note – I love cyber Monday, shopping + pjs and a mystery podcast all at once?! Sign me up!! I hope you guys found some killer deals! When I first approached a few local bloggers about an event concept I had, I didn’t anticipate the beauty that would come from it. Local creatives meeting each other for the first time face-to-face instead of just over Instagram, being able to feature apparel & accessories from around Grand Rapids, and even being the soft opening at an incredible new sandwich shop @grainsandwichshop to help promote their opening. It’s awesome to see how many people are impacted for good when you go after an idea, invest your whole heart & let the Lord lead.
Working with so many local shops & creatives was such an enlivening experience! Plus, connecting with my local community & building a network for each person to connect & grow was the coolest thing to watch! I walked away from the @meetcutecommunity event proud of what had been accomplished & proud of the fact that we created a space for local growth!
This (majorly) awesome faux fur jacket is from local shop @blcklamb & the beauty I styled it on is @rachelgabes – she’s an incredible photographer, guys! But aside from that she’s kind, sincere, relatable and hearing her story was so inspiring! Thanks for coming and letting me style you in this sassy number, Rachel! ❤️

I could hear music on the other side of this pale yellow door and although that may not sound scary to you, I was terribly nervous they would see me on their doorstep and come guns blazing out to get me! But let’s be real, with a soft yellow door and such cheerful potted flowers they probably would have offered me cookies.
Cheers to you sweet yellow door and mystery friends inside for creating such a welcoming and happy little space that made me feel both thrill and appreciation!
I hope and wonder if the owners of this lovely space feel the same emotions I did about what they created. I sure hope so! I’m (obviously) one of those people that thinks pretty deeply, I tend to hope that any ordinary day holds the possibility of growth or greatness & sometimes even hunt for it. Typically it’s the unexpected, subtle things that captivate me the most; like this small side entrance hiding alongside of the huge, stunning home it belongs to.
Maybe it’s the part of me that is rooting for the underdog, or maybe the part that is captivated by the little details, or maybe the space of my heart that believes in the power of small victories in achieving the big vision. Whichever it is, this little door seemed to catch my attention and allow my heart to wander with curiosity.
Not all of my photos have a story or enlightening moment behind them, but I’m proud of them all. Each one is a little step forward and each one gives me the opportunity to share a small piece of my heart with you! ? @kelseyhettinga .
