So, I went to Ulta today to buy some Christmas gifts. I had my littlest fella Weston with me, he’s 3 & obviously curious about everything he sets his big, round, puppy dog eyes on. Especially messy things, of course – in fact the messier, the better! By the time we left he had red lipstick smeared all over his face (I turned around for a second, I swear!), he had disassembled a lit display case – like actually removed the lightbulb from where it was attached (crazy thing is I was standing right next to him! I didn’t even look away this time!), he now smells like a male Gucci model but also a coconut and I managed to leave with 2 of the wrong things because I was more focused him than what I was buying. I could hear music on the other side of this pale yellow door and although that may not sound scary to you, I was terribly nervous they would see me on their doorstep and come guns blazing out to get me! But let’s be real, with a soft yellow door and such cheerful potted flowers they probably would have offered me cookies.
Cheers to you sweet yellow door and mystery friends inside for creating such a welcoming and happy little space that made me feel both thrill and appreciation!
I hope and wonder if the owners of this lovely space feel the same emotions I did about what they created. I sure hope so! I’m (obviously) one of those people that thinks pretty deeply, I tend to hope that any ordinary day holds the possibility of growth or greatness & sometimes even hunt for it. Typically it’s the unexpected, subtle things that captivate me the most; like this small side entrance hiding alongside of the huge, stunning home it belongs to.
Maybe it’s the part of me that is rooting for the underdog, or maybe the part that is captivated by the little details, or maybe the space of my heart that believes in the power of small victories in achieving the big vision. Whichever it is, this little door seemed to catch my attention and allow my heart to wander with curiosity.
Not all of my photos have a story or enlightening moment behind them, but I’m proud of them all. Each one is a little step forward and each one gives me the opportunity to share a small piece of my heart with you! ? @kelseyhettinga .

This is my BABY (although not such a baby anymore… waaahhh!) and he’s going to be 3 in less than a week!! Time is a crazy thing, it’s so precious and a total disappearing act. I think about the things we’ve done in the last 9 years with our kids and the worth each moment held & I feel filled up & overflowing with gratitude!
We are constantly figuring out where to make adjustments to become more patient, gracious & consistent with our kids but I’ll tell you confidently that we love them well!
This baby of mine is an incredible kid – he’s confident, extremely silly, imaginative, passionate and (obviously) adorable. So excited to celebrate his life next week!

This tiny gent is one of the reasons I do what I do. He is wild and sincere and when he wants something he is relentless and passionate! Maybe because he’s 2 & driven by emotion or maybe because they’re the gifts Jesus created him with! I see a boy that will grow into a passionate, driven, motivated and spirited man! I hope to nurture & guide his liveliness instead of ever making him feel that his spirit needs to calm down. As a mama you get stretched in patients and self control, sometimes I have movements of total defeat and feelings of exhaustion in all avenues possible. But I also have countless chances to be stretched in creativity, motivation, dedication and love. It’s through my experience as a mom that I’ve built endurance, confidence, motivation, follow through & problem solving and it’s through their eyes and words that I feel like I am capable of achieving anything I put my heart into. They help me to see my moments of failure and self doubt as opportunities to improve & grow because that’s how I taught them to see themselves! It’s interesting when those life lessons are forgotten by us when it pertains to us! I’m just having one of those weeks where I’m feeling things pretty deep I guess, letting the Lord show me His relevance and presence in my life. Of course my kids are always one of the ways He gets to my heart! Ps. His CURLS!!!

These guys keep me on my toes! Not only in case I need to tap into my inner Wonder Woman to catch them mid fall or activate my laser vision to remind them I can most definitely see everything, at all times… but also with my wardrobe! (Anticlimactic?! It’ll always come back to the wardrobe with me, I mean c’mon! I’m a stylist!) I want to be able to wear the cute dresses and heels and white too!! I think a lot of moms think those options are entirely unavailable with little, messy monsters running in circles in around them. But I’ve got a trick or 2 that say otherwise! Moms, I know you can feel like your identity gets lost in the shuffle of motherhood! One of the things that’s kept me feeling like ME, Olivia, with my own identity and desires is being able to feel good about myself. I never thought I’d be one for red pants, but I’ve learned that if I go into a store specifically to try things on that feel outside of my comfort zone, I often feel pleasantly surprised! That’s also something I encourage each of my clients to trust me with – does it make you feel a little afraid and excited on the hanger?! Good. Just imagine when you get it on! A little heart.

So, this is what a first blog post looks like! Well, what do ya know!? What I’m still trying to figure out is why I’ve dragged my feet about taking this plunge into the blogging world. I suppose part of me didn’t want to get lost in the endless sea of blogger-beauties out there and I’ve always had to fight the urge not to be the fish swimming up stream, ya get me? So my pride aside, here I am. I had the realization recently that I’m cool with blogging as long as it inspires, bleeds authenticity and offers a place for you feel like you belong. A place you can turn the switch off in your busy day, if only for a moment.

 All of that aside (for now) I’m here because of a life long dream to be a fashion stylist! Some one who can support the every day woman through her personal style journey. I’ve quickly learned through my work that the journey encompasses seasons of life that hold significance for each woman. Some that have had new babes, some that have lost weight and feel like they’re dressing an entirely different person, some that simply feel lost when it comes to their personal style and wonder if they’ve even got one at all! Every single woman is different; each one beautiful with a story worth sharing.

Coco said it best,

I hope to offer you a way to connect to the fashion world but also to my world! I wear so many hats like so many of you! My days are full of running kids around, fashion research, exhaustion, personal styling and shopping, wife-ing, grocery shopping, coffee, emotional days and days to celebrate! I hope this can be one of the places you come and feel understood. Where whatever hat you’ve got on for the day is being worn by other women too, even if it’s styled a little differently.

 Today I’m wearing my mom hat, stylist hat and I just picked up this blogger hat that I’m still getting a feel for! You’ll have to let me know what you think sometime. So, I suppose that’s it then. I’m a stylist and I’m a blogger. Maybe. We’ll see.
